Campbellsville High School has announced its plans to host events to honor the Class of 2020.

CHS will host individual, in-person graduation ceremonies for its graduates soon.

Administrators have had much discussion about how to best honor the Class of 2020, since schools aren’t allowed to have traditional graduation ceremonies this year.

CIS officials want graduates to be honored and recognized for their hard work in the safest way possible.

All plans are pending approval from Lake Cumberland District Health Department officials.

Plans are to have individual, in-person ceremonies on Monday, May 18.

Video and photographs from the ceremonies will be compiled, and a video graduation ceremony will be aired on Saturday, May 30.

And, should it be allowed, CHS will host a traditional graduation ceremony on Saturday, Dec. 12.

CHS will host an individual, in-person ceremony for each member of the CHS Class of 2020 in Hamilton Auditorium.

Everyone entering the building must wear a mask and adhere to six-feet social distancing, and abide by other health precautions.

Students will be assigned a time for their individual graduation ceremony, and can have up to six family members, not counting the graduate, attend the event.

Students will be scheduled alphabetically by last name for their individual graduation time.

The graduates will have a private ceremony with CHS Principal Weston Jones, Campbellsville Independent Schools Superintendent Kirby Smith and a Campbellsville Board of Education member.

Each graduate will have a photograph taken at the event, and receive a copy with their diploma. Graduates will have the opportunity to purchase additional graduation photos.

After each individual ceremony, students and their guests will leave the building and the next student will have his or her ceremony.

The announcement of each graduate will be captured on video, along with traditional speeches and recognitions.

All the individual ceremonies will be edited together to produce a virtual graduation ceremony that will be aired on Saturday, May 30, at 2 p.m.

A detailed list of procedures for the individual ceremonies will be shared once approved.

Because of current health guidelines, CHS graduates will not be allowed to gather together for a traditional class photo.

Plans for a virtual project graduation ceremony are in the works, with information to be released soon.

Also, CHS will host a virtual baccalaureate and class night ceremony on Saturday, May 30, at noon.

Pending approval, CHS will plan a traditional graduation ceremony for Saturday, Dec. 12, at 11 a.m. More information about that event will be released in coming months.

These are unprecedented times and it’s unfortunate that the 2019-2020 school year ended this way.

Although nothing can take the place of a traditional graduation ceremony, CIS administrators hope that these graduation events will provide lasting memories for the Class of 2020.
