CMS academic team finishes second in District Governor’s Cup competition

Campbellsville Middle School academic team competed in District Governor’s Cup competition recently and finished in second place.

 

As a result, the team advances to region competition.

 

In its district, CMS competes against Adair, Green and Taylor counties.

 

At Governor’s Cup competitions, teams compete in on-demand writing, quick recall, future problem solving and five written exams, including math, science, social studies, language arts and arts and humanities.

 

Overall, CMS finished in second place.

 

The team was also second place in quick recall.

 

Many students also placed in written exams and advance to region.

 

Those winners include the following.

 

In math, eighth-grader Isaac Garrison finished in first place.

 

Angelic Seng, also an eighth-grader, was second and classmate Nathan McFarland finished fourth.

 

In science, eighth-grader Kayden Birdwell finished in first place.

 

Eighth-grader Conner Tipton was second and Garrison finished fifth.

 

In social studies, Seng finished in third place and sixth-grader Connor Coots was fourth.

 

In language arts, Birdwell was third.

 

In arts and humanities, seventh-grader Zeke Harris was third and eighth-grader Brianna Dobson finished in fourth place.

 

And in written composition, eighth-grader Karlie Cox finished in fifth place.

 

Students who receive fifth place or higher advance to region competition.

 

This year’s region competition will be at Science Hill Elementary School in Somerset on Monday, Jan. 27, for FPS and written composition and Saturday, Feb. 1, for exams and quick recall.
