CES Wings Express students learn about nutrition

Campbellsville Elementary School Wings Express students recently enjoyed smoothies as they learned about nutrition.

Wings Express students attended a two-week summer camp recently to have fun and learn together.

Students worked with teachers to sharpen their reading and math skills, while also having fun on several special trips and hearing from guest speakers and readers.

Angie Freeman, expanded foods and nutrition program assistant at Taylor County Extension Office, read to the students and spoke to them about healthy eating habits.

Freeman showed students how to make fruit smoothies, which will help them get their daily fruit servings.

After the smoothies were made, students sampled them as a snack.

Wings Express is a program to help students with homework and other activities.

Students receive help with reading, math, science, technology, social skills and more. They also participate in activities to learn about nutrition.

The program, which is for students in kindergarten through third grade, is free to those who apply and are accepted.

Doug Holmes is Wings Express director.

For more information, or to donate to or volunteer with the program, call Holmes at (270) 465-4561.
