CES academic team advances to region competition

Campbellsville Elementary School academic team competed in District Governor’s Cup competition on Saturday, Feb. 8, and won several awards.

 

As a result, the team will advance to region competition in coming weeks.

 

At Governor’s Cup competitions, teams compete in on-demand writing, quick recall, future problem solving and five written exams, including math, science, social studies, language arts and arts and humanities.

 

In its District, the CES academic team competes against Adair, Green and Taylor counties.

 

CES finished second in quick recall, defeating Taylor and Green counties.

 

In math, fifth-grader Cayton Lawhorn finished first.

 

Fourth-grader Parker Scharbrough was fourth in science.

 

And fifth-grader Maddox Hawkins was fifth in social studies.

 

Lawhorn, Scharbrough and Hawkins will participate in region competition on Saturday, Feb. 29, at Clinton County Middle School.

 

CES teachers Samantha Coomer and Debbie Edwards are the academic team coaches.
