OH THE PLACES WE WILL GO AS WE EXPLORE WORDS and READ!!!
Each student I serve has a reading folder. In that folder you will find an assignment sheet, a reading log, sight words to practice and a sheet to record the timed results from that practice. Parents, if you have any questions, concerns, or comments -- PLEASE DO NOT HESITATE to contact me.
Just a reminder to anyone new to my webpage or CES... the first 100 words from the Fry Instant Word List (1980), represent 50 percent of all the words children encounter in elementary school reading? MASTERY of those 100 words is ESSENTIAL for every child!
These words (and many more) can be found on the following site http://rbeaudoin333.homestead.com/sightvocab_1.html with many activities to do to help improve your child's sight word bank. In order for a child to read fluently (with appropriate rate and expression) he/she needs to KNOW (recognize) these sight words as easily as they know their name. A few minutes a day with a set of flash cards, and dedicated practice can benefit most children. Once they have mastered the first 100 (no matter their age) MOVE ON to the next 100 and keep on MOVING ON!!
**MOST CES students are enrolled in Lexia Core 5. Your child can gain valuable language practice by accessing the CES page, CES LINKS, and the New Lexia link. Students know their passwords or their teacher can make that information available to you. This program is available seven (7) days a week. Watch them work (let them work alone, just listen) and enjoy their progress. Every COMMON CORE Language Arts standard from kindergarten through fifth grade is covered.
**Some Second/Third Grade students are enrolled in Reading Plus instead of Lexia. They also have access through the school site seven (7) days a week. Each student on Reading Plus has 9 lessons to complete in a week. When they finish those 9 lessons they will have access to ibalance. Reading Plus is a little different than Lexia. Students will need to work for approximately 20 to 30 minutes to finish one SR/RA lesson. They need to complete the whole lesson in 1 session.
If you have any questions about either program or the sight words your child should be working on, please contact us at 270-465-4561.
My reading students should be reading with an adult (listening/helping) each night. They should take five AR tests a week. To take AR tests on leveled books go to: https://hosted112.renlearn.com/100028 or use the CES student links and go to the Accelerated Reader link.
