CIS honors Brockman family

Bobby Brockman’s seat at the Campbellsville High School gymnasium now belongs to his family.

Campbellsville Independent Schools honored Brockman, who was sports editor at Central Kentucky News-Journal when he died last month, before the CHS boys’ basketball game on Thursday, Feb. 22.

Brockman always sat in the same seat when attending athletic events in the CHS gym.

After his death, his seat was removed from the gym and later made into a bench.

The bench was presented to Brockman’s wife, daughters and granddaughter during a special ceremony before the CHS basketball game.

CIS Superintendent Kirby Smith and CHS Principal David Petett made the presentation.

During the ceremony, Brockman was honored for his unwavering support of the CHS athletic program.

Brockman graduated from CHS in 1974, and attended countless sporting events in the gymnasium in his role as sports editor.

A plaque has been installed where Brockman sat.

It reads, “Your passion, enthusiasm and dedication to the coverage of our local and state sports will not be forgotten. Your memory will live with us forever.”

Brockman, 61, died on Jan. 7.

The last sporting events he attended were the CHS vs. Taylor County girls’ and boys’ basketball games on Friday, Jan. 5, in which the CHS teams were victorious.

At the basketball game following his death, a notebook was placed on the bleachers in his honor.

Brockman’s daughters Rachel and Melanie also graduated from CHS, and his youngest daughter, Savanna, is a sophomore at CHS.

He was married to Sonja Brockman.
