CES students learn about prefixes

Campbellsville Elementary School second-graders are learning about prefixes.

In Tracey Rinehart’s class, Campbellsville University education student Jordyn Bray recently taught students about the prefixes un- and non-.

Bray talked to students about the meaning of the two prefixes, and why they are used.

Students brainstormed to create a list of words beginning in un- and non-.

The listed included unhappy, untie, undo, unpack and unsafe, and nonfiction, nonstop, nonfat, nondairy and nonsense.

As an exercise, students made color palettes and wrote the prefixes on them to help them remember the lesson.

First, students colored paint splotches. After cutting them out, students glued them on two paint palettes.

Lastly, students wrote their new words on each paint splotch.
