CHS students create Pop Art

Campbellsville High School art students are creating their own Pop Art.

In Jo Ann Harris’s classes, students are studying Peter Max’s artwork, and making their own art in his style.

Max is a German-born American illustrator and graphic artist, known for the use of psychedelic shapes, cosmic imagery and bright color palettes.

His early work, from the 1960s, appeared on posters and was seen on the walls of many college dorm rooms across America. He is described as a Pop Artist, as a surrealist and a neo-expressionist.

Pop Art is an art movement that emerged in the mid-1950s and uses imagery from pop culture.

Harris asked her students to create their own Pop Art, based on popular culture today.

Students used color pencils, markers, oil pastels, watercolors and tempera paints to create their artwork.
