CHS students tour Oak Ridge National Laboratory

Campbellsville High School students recently took a tour of the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee.

A group of about 40 computer science, environmental science and physics students attended the trip to see supercomputers, 3D printers and a high flux isotope reactor.

Students toured the facility, which is managed by the UT-Battelle for the U.S. Department of Energy, and heard several presentations about environmental sciences and manufacturing.

The ORNL is the largest U.S. Department of Energy open science laboratory.

Its mission is to deliver scientific discoveries and technical solutions in clean energy and global security, while creating economic opportunities for the nation.

Students attending the trip include sophomores Ben Arachi, Gavin Johnson, Grant Rinehart, Zaria Cowan, Emily Rodgers, Shelby Smith, Alli Wilson, Gracyne Hash and Katelyn Miller; junior Celeste Hassman; and seniors Madison Dial, Sara Farmer, Missy Vanorder, Christian Berry, Austin Fitzgerald, Jackson Hunt, Vivian Brown, Jasmine Cox, Haley Fitch, Alex Doss, Cass Kidwell, Ryan Wiedewitsch, Sydney Jeong and Hye Su Cho.
