CES academic team students advance to region Governor’s Cup competition

Campbellsville Elementary School academic team members competed at District Governor’s Cup competition on Tuesday, Feb. 6, and Saturday, Feb. 10, and won several awards.

 

And, as a result, six students will advance to region competition.

 

At Governor’s Cup competitions, teams compete in on-demand writing, quick recall, future problem solving and five written exams, including math, science, social studies, language arts and arts and humanities.

 

In its district, Campbellsville Elementary School competes against Green and Taylor counties.

 

The CES future problem solving team, made up of fourth-graders Connor Coots and Grayson Dooley and fifth-graders Logan England and Bryanna Fitzgerald, won first place, and advances to region competition.

 

In math, CES third-grader Cayton Lawhorn finished in fifth place.

 

Fourth-grader Grayson Dooley won fifth place in science.

 

In social studies, fifth-grader Logan England was fourth and fourth-grader Connor Coots finished in fifth place.

 

Fifth-grader Zeke Harris was fourth in language arts and second in arts and humanities.

 

And fifth-grader Bryanna Fitzgerald was fourth in arts and humanities.

 

As a result of their scores, Lawhorn, Dooley, England, Coots, Fitzgerald and Harris advance to region competition.

 

CES was third place in quick recall, and finished District competition in third place.

 

Region competition will be on Monday, Feb. 26, and Saturday, March 3, at Jamestown Elementary School in Jamestown.

 

At region competition, CMS will compete against Adair, Cumberland, Metcalfe, Jamestown, Russell Springs, Salem, Taylor and Wayne County Monticello elementary schools, Green County Intermediate School and Clinton County Middle School.

 

Samantha Coomer sponsors CES academic team, which is made up of third-, fourth- and fifth-graders, with assistance from Debbie Edwards and Steven Gumm, who co-sponsor the Campbellsville Middle School academic team.
