CES students study Christmas traditions around the world

Campbellsville Elementary School students are learning about Christmas traditions from around the world.

Second-grade students are discussing how people from many different cultures celebrate the upcoming Christmas holiday.

Lisa Kearney’s students recently discussed how those living in the Netherlands celebrate.

Students learned that people in the Netherlands celebrate Christmas in November and early December, and, the night before Sinterklaas is to arrive, leave their wooden shoes out and fill them with vegetables for Sinterklaas’s horse.

After their discussion, students colored a picture of wooden shoes and then colored and cut out vegetables to put inside the shoes.

When finished, students will have studied Christmas traditions in the United States, France, Germany, Sweden, Mexico, Italy, Canada and the Netherlands.
