CES students learn about the saxophone

Campbellsville Elementary School students are learning about musical instruments.

In Cyndi Chadwick’s classes, students are discussing many different types of instruments, and how they are used to make sound.

Woodwind instruments, such as the clarinet, saxophone and bassoon, create sound through a mouthpiece and reed.

To see how a woodwind works, Campbellsville University education student Scott Caffee, who is Chadwick’s student teacher, recently played the saxophone for students.

Students studied how the instrument uses keys to make high and low sounds.

As part of their unit, students are creating a folder full of photos of the different types of instruments.

Caffee played the alto and tenor saxophones for students and let them see and touch the instruments.
