CHS football players, coach honored

Campbellsville High School football coach Dale Estes and players Devonte Cubit and Arren Hash were recently honored for their success this season.

Head coach Dale Estes was, for the second year in a row, named the Coach of the Year for Class A District 2.

Estes said it’s an honor to be nominated by his peers.

“The coach of year honor is also for my staff because all my coaches are very important and I have some of the best assistant coaches around,” he said.

Assistant coaches are Herb Wiseman, Tyler Hardy, Robbie Gribbins, Bronson Gowdy, Aaron Webb and Will Griffin.

Cubit was named the Class A District 2 Player of the Year.

He was also chosen to compete in the Battle of the Bluegrass all-star game on Saturday, Dec. 10, at Elizabethtown High School.

“I am really happy they voted for Devonte because it is all about the players really,” Estes said.

Estes and Cubit will be recognized at the Class A state championship game on Friday, Dec. 1, at the University of Kentucky campus.

Hash, the quarterback for the CHS team, was named to the Kentucky Prep All-Freshmen team.

Kentucky Prep also named Hash one of the top quarterbacks in the state.

The CHS team recently ended its season with a 7-7 record, and making school history.

This season was the first since 1998 and only the third time in school history that the Eagles played in the state semi-finals.

The CHS team was the semi state-finals runner-up to Beechwood High School.

CHS was also the Class A Region 1 District 2 champs, along with Class A Region 1 champions.
