CHS principal receives Change Award

Campbellsville High School Principal David Petett received the Change Award at the Campbellsville Board of Education meeting on Monday, Sept. 11.

Campbellsville Independent Schools Superintendent Kirby Smith honors three Change Award winners each month, including a certified and classified employee and a community member.

Petett received the certified Change Award.

The awards are given based upon six elements, which spell the word Eagles. They include Encouraging and exhibiting Attitudes of Greatness, while Leading with high Expectations to Success.

In reading a letter nominating Petett for the award, Smith said Petett stepped up as a leader during a time of change in the District.

“He was not afraid of a change in his career, as he followed his calling,” Smith said. “He has embraced the challenge of leading the high school and making a difference in the lives of his students, his staff and his teachers.”

Smith said Petett truly wants what is best for each of his students and embodies the spirit of the District’s hashtag #changinglives.

Petett said he is appreciative of the award.

“I’m not here getting an award without folks like Mrs. [Missy] Hughes, Mrs. [Tammy] Wilson, the students and staff of CHS,” he said.

“They’ve been awesome. I’m so blessed that they’ve let me be a part of what they have.

“It’s really simple, there’s no Change Award for me without the folks I work with and the 315 students that I serve every day, some of the best young people in the state of Kentucky.”

Petett, who became principal at CHS this school year, is one of few who have served as principal at CES, CMS and CHS.

He is in his 16th year working in education.

Petett served as an eighth-grade social studies teacher at CMS for six years, and then two years as principal at Campbellsville Elementary School. He then served as principal at CMS for three years.

Four years ago, he became director of district programs at CIS, and two years ago also began serving as transportation director.
