CHS students attend Rogers Explorers program

Campbellsville High School freshmen Abi Wiedewitsch and John Orberson attended the Rogers Explorers program this summer to learn how to be leaders.

The Rogers Explorers program is an intensive three-day, two-night program focused on cultivating skills in leadership, technology, math, science and community service. It is developed, coordinated and supervised by The Center for Rural Development.

Wiedewitsch and Orberson attended the program at the University of Pikeville.

Wiedewitsch said she enjoyed the program and made new friends while there.

“I learned how we can apply science to real-life situations,” she said. “I also learned what jobs are available in science and math fields.”

Wiedewitsch said the Rogers Explorers program helped her as a student and person, because it made her step outside her comfort zone.

“ … And [the program] helped me to believe in myself and become a better leader,” she said.

Orberson said he enjoyed the activities at Rogers Explorers, along with learning how science is used in real life.

“I learned about the science and math fields and how they are used in everyday jobs for people.”

Attending the Rogers Explorers program helped Orberson interact with others and become a better person.

Wiedewitsch and Orberson say Rogers Explorers helped them become more involved in their community and gave them a chance to try something new.

The two said attending Rogers Explorers was a great experience, and something they will add to their college applications.

About 500 students applied to attend the program.
