CHS names Eagle Excellence award winners

Campbellsville High School recently announced its Eagle Excellence award winners for April.

 

Eagle Excellence awards honor students who excel in eight specific academic areas. Winners are chosen each month, and can come from any grade level.

 

Teachers nominate students for the awards based on their performance in the classroom and their exemplary leadership skills.

 

Awards are given to students in the areas of science, English, vocational studies, art, social studies, math, music and foreign language studies.

 

When receiving the award, students are given a certificate signed by CHS Principal Kirby Smith and Campbellsville Independent Schools Superintendent Mike Deaton.

 

Award winners also have their photographs featured in a wooden case hung beside the CHS office.

 

Students who were chosen for the honor this month include the following.

 

Vocational Studies

 

CHS freshmen Taylor Brewer receives the vocational studies award.

Her teachers say she is a wonderful student who always comes to class with a positive and pleasant attitude and is ready to work. She is always up for any challenge she is presented.

 

Math

 

CHS freshman Conner Riley receives the math award.

Riley is a dedicated student who enjoys learning. He is a leader in and out of the classroom and is drawn to studying math. He is a joy to have in class.

 

English

 

CHS junior Vonnea Smith receives the English award.

Smith has shown great improvement in her reading and writing skills over the year, mostly due to the determination and dedication she has applied to her learning. Her academic growth is a great example of the rewards earned from focusing on self-improvement and becoming a lifelong learner. She should definitely be commended for her perseverance through tough and challenging moments. 


Music

Babbs has stepped up in a leadership role in band, taking on more responsibility in making sure that the groups follow expectations. He also helps those around with their music and has been a great leadership addition to the group.

 

Foreign Language

Her teachers say she goes above and beyond what is expected and has an inquisitive mind. Smith is a role model to her classmates and enjoys learning the Spanish language.

 

Social Studies

 

CHS junior Ryan Wiedewitsch receives the social studies award.

He is an asset to any class in which he is involved. Wiedewitsch understands the importance of historical thinking and how it has a place in culture and society. 

 

Science

 

CHS sophomore Randy Harris receives the science award.

Harris has accomplished a lot in the information technology pathways as just a sophomore. He completed an industry certification as an eighth-grader and has taken both AP computer science and AP computer science principles. He also was involved in a STLP project that finished in the top 10 in the state. Harris plans to pursue a career in IT.

 

Art

Her teachers say she has amazing drawing skills. Packard’s graphite portraits are well-shaded and appear almost life-like. She has a great future ahead of her in tattoo art.
