CES cafeteria worker receives Dare to Soar award

Campbellsville Elementary School cafeteria worker Eveleen Burkhead has received this month’s Dare to Soar award.

Campbellsville Independent Schools Superintendent Mike Deaton made the presentation at the Campbellsville Board of Education’s regular meeting on Monday, April 17.

In reading a letter written by CES Cafeteria Manager Anita Haulk nominating Burkhead for the award, Deaton read that she is always on time for work and rarely misses a day.

“She is without a doubt the most dedicated and hard working woman I have ever met,” Deaton read.

The letter states that Burkhead was sick before Thanksgiving and received hospital treatment for about a week.

“Do you think she was worried about herself? No, her concern was for our children we feed every day and for all of us who she works with.”

The letter states that Burkhead is always there to help CES students.

“Whether it was for a new pair of shoes or a winter jacket, or maybe a box of food,” Deaton read. “She is the most loving and caring person ever.

“I am sure we would have never made it through this renovation without her. She always makes sure things are taken care of and done right.”

According to the letter, Burkhead’s husband Jan has worked countless hours working with local youth and to improve the ball fields in the community.

“These two are a wonderful team. I can’t begin to imagine how many children’s lives they have had an impact on over the years.

“I always tell Eveleen that she and I came in together and we have to go out together. It has been a pleasure to work beside her all these years and I know the rest of our team at CES feels the same way.”

Campbellsville Board of Education Chair Pat Hall said Burkhead is a blessing to the District.

“The Burkheads have been a part of Campbellsville School District, a very important part of Campbellsville School District, for many years,” Hall said.

“This is truly a joy for our family to be able to honor someone that truly represents what an Eagle community is.

“We love you. Nobody deserves this more than you do.”

Burkhead has worked at Campbellsville Independent Schools since 1998.

She and her husband Jan have three children, including Jason, who graduated from Campbellsville High School in 1990; Allison Veach, who graduated from CHS in 1996; and Kecia Bottoms, who graduated from CHS in 1999.

Burkhead’s grandsons Zack and Lane, who are her daughter Kecia Bottoms’s sons, are a senior and sophomore at CHS, respectively.
