CHS senior to play soccer at CU

Campbellsville High School soccer player Daniel Silva will continue his academic and athletic career at Campbellsville University.

Silva recently signed his letter of intent in a special ceremony with friends, family members, classmates and teammates.

CHS Principal Kirby Smith said it’s exciting to see Silva continue his soccer career so close to home.

Silva thanked his parents, coaches and teammates for giving him the best time of his life this past season.

“I want to thank all the coaches for pushing me,” he said.

Silva also thanked his parents, Dewayne and Dr. Carla Golightly, for always pushing and supporting him.

“Thank you for everything,” he said.

CHS head soccer coach Bradley Harris said he, and all of those involved with the CHS soccer team, are proud of Silva.

“We’re proud of Daniel and everything he’s accomplished for us.”

CHS head soccer coach Adam Preston said Silva is a fine young man.

“We’re excited to work with him and see him grow over the next few years,” he said.

Preston, who once coached soccer at CHS, said he is excited to have a CHS graduate join his team.

Silva intends to study math at CU and later engineering in Lexington.

He said he chose to attend CU because the school is close to home, and he received a great offer.

“All that I need is right there,” he said.

Silva was a stand-out soccer player at CHS last season, scoring more goals than any other player, at 25.

He is also in the Kentucky High School Athletic Association record book for scoring six goals in a single game, on two occasions.
