CES Wings Express students learn about dental hygiene

Campbellsville Elementary School Wings Express students recently learned about dental hygiene.

Dr. Heather Wise of Wise Dentistry For Kids recently spoke to Wings Express students about how they should care for their teeth.

Wise said it’s important for everyone to brush their teeth in the morning and evening, and to eat healthy snacks.

And healthy snacks aren’t as likely to stick to a person’s teeth, Wise said.

She said it’s important to visit the dentist twice a year, and to drink lots of water.

Wise said students should spend at least a minute brushing their top teeth, and another minute brushing their bottom teeth.

She played a game with students to see what kinds of snacks are healthy, and which ones contain sugar that will stick to a person’s teeth.

In addition to speaking to the group, Wise brought new toothbrushes for the Wings Express students.

Wings Express is a program to help students with homework and other activities. Students receive help with reading, math, science, technology, social skills and more. They also participate in activities to learn about nutrition.

Wings Express students stay at school from 3 to 5 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays and from 1 to 3 p.m. on Fridays for activities.

There are no Wings Express activities on Wednesdays.

Students are given a snack and then divided into groups to participate in programs that best fit their needs.

About 90 students will participate in the Wings Express program.

Amanda Barnett is Wings Express director.
