CHS students finish paper mache project

Campbellsville High School students have finished their 3D paper mache objects.

Students in Jo Ann Harris’s classes recently watched an episode of “Face Off,” a reality television show that features a competition between special effects makeup artists.

While watching the show, students learned about making special effects, but also about art careers.

To put their new skills to the test, students selected a character from Alice in Wonderland or a video game and then went to work making their own 3D sculptures.

The first step of the process was covering balloons with paper mache.

After their balloons dried, students continued to shape their sculptures and eventually painted them to look like their characters.

The goal, Harris said, is for those who see the finished sculptures to not know they started out as balloons.

The finished objects are on display at the CHS Media Center.
