CMS music teacher seeking donations, all money donated will be matched

Campbellsville Middle School music teacher Jessica Floyd is once again seeking donations to help purchase some instruments for her classroom.

 

And, for a limited time, all donations to her campaign will be matched.

 

Floyd created a Donors Choose campaign last July to receive donations to buy ukuleles for CMS students.

 

And while many donations were received, her campaign isn’t yet fully funded.

 

The instruments will cost $478.

 

For a limited time, the Johnson Ohana Charitable Foundation will match all money donated to fund the project.

 

According to Floyd’s Donors Choose page, her students need hands-on experiences to keep them interested in learning music, and ukuleles will do just that.

 

Floyd says she plans to use ukuleles to teach chord structure in folk and pop music.

 

“I envision solo and group projects that will eventually push them beyond the basic chord structures and into learning melodies as well. It is my goal to empower students with the love of music and the joy of performing,” she wrote on her page.

 

The $478 goal for the Floyd’s fundraising campaign will purchase 10 ukuleles.

 

The Johnson Ohana Charitable Foundation was founded by Jack and Kim Johnson to support environmental, art and music education.

 

As part of the foundation’s Back to School Music & Arts Match, qualifying projects that support in-class or schoolwide music and arts programs or involving purchase of instruments and art supplies, will be funded.

 

The Johnson Ohana Charitable Foundation believes strongly in fostering hands-on arts and music exploration in the classroom.

 

As of Monday, Feb. 6, about $352 is needed to complete Floyd’s campaign.

 

The campaign will expire on Thursday, May 4.
