CHS student honored at reception

CHS senior Blair Lamb is representing her school and community at the Kentucky Distinguished Young Women competition this week.

She is staying in Lexington for rehearsals to prepare for the final competition on Friday and Saturday.

But before she left, Lamb was honored at a public reception on Friday, Jan. 6, to wish her well. Many of Lamb’s friends and family members came to wish her well.

She was named Taylor County’s DYW last June.

The state competition is at the Singletary Center for the Arts on the University of Kentucky campus in Lexington.

She will perform in the talent portion of the competition on Friday, Jan. 13, at 7 p.m. She will sing a musical theater selection to “Astonishing” from Little Women.

Lamb will compete in the self-expression portion of the program on Saturday, Jan. 14, at 11 a.m.

The finals portion of the competition will be on Saturday, Jan. 13, at 7 p.m.

At the state competition, each participant will compete in scholastics and interview, which each account for 25 percent of the overall score, talent and fitness categories, which each account for 20 percent, and the self-expression category, which accounts for 15 percent.

This year, $27,000 in cash scholarships will be given away at the state competition, and more than $8.2 million in college offered scholarships will be awarded.

Rehearsals for the state program will be the week of Jan. 8.

At the Taylor County program, in addition to the DYW title, Lamb also won the Be Your Best Self Award, the overall scholastic and self-expression awards and preliminary awards in fitness, talent and interview.
