CHS is tournament runner-up, nearly 1,600 pounds of food donated

Campbellsville High School girls’ basketball team is this year’s runner-up in the CHS Food Pantry Holiday Classic basketball tournament.

 

CHS lost the very close championship match up to Whitley County.

 

Final score was 43-47.

 

CHS defeated Hart County on Wednesday, Dec. 21, and Metcalfe County on Thursday, Dec. 22, to advance to the championship game on Friday, Dec. 23.

 

The annual tournament is a service project for CHS to collect canned goods for the Taylor County Food Pantry.

 

In all, 1,592 pounds of cans were collected.

 

CHS collected 1,292 pounds. Edmonson County donated 130 pounds, Washington County donated 122 pounds and Adair County donated 48 pounds.

 

All canned goods will be donated to families in Taylor County.

 

Anthony Epps is in his first year as CHS girls’ basketball head coach.

 

Assistant coaches are Katie Wilkerson, Natalia Warren, George Eon and Debbie Gowdy-Smith.

 

After the holiday break, the CHS girls’ freshmen team will take on Elizabethtown and Glasgow on Monday, Jan. 16, at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., respectively, at the CHS gym.

 

The JV team will play Spencer County on Monday, Jan. 9, at 6 p.m. at the CHS gym.

 

And the varsity squad will take on Taylor County on Friday, Jan. 6, at 6 p.m. at Taylor County High School.
