CES teacher receives Dare to Soar award

Campbellsville Elementary School third-grade teacher Marcia Sharp received the Dare to Soar award at the Campbellsville Board of Education meeting on Monday, Dec. 12.

Campbellsville Independent Schools Superintendent Mike Deaton made the presentation.

“She’s an inspiration to her fellow teachers,” Deaton read form Sharp’s nomination. “Her passion to see her students succeed is unwavering and her ability to motivate and make others around her better is second to none.”

Deaton said Sharp’s ability to create positive relationships with students, parents and teachers allows her to bring out the best in each person she works with.

“Mrs. Sharp’s dedication is evident by her willingness and ability to make the Campbellsville Independent School District the absolute best it can be,” he said.

On a personal note, Deaton said, he recently visited Sharp’s classroom and she “took me down a notch or two” for interrupting her class instruction.

“Once she starts to work, you better back off and stay out of the way,” Deaton said.

In accepting the award, Sharp said, “I am so honored. Thank you.”

“I love what I do. I’ve been in this school district for 20 years now, and it’s gone by really fast,” she said. “It’s a great honor to work with a great staff.”

Sharp was recently featured in an article in the December issue of the Kentucky School Advocate publication about the sharp increase in test scores at CES.

Sharp has worked at CES since 1997.

She is married to Greg Sharp, and they have a daughter, Mandy, who graduated from Campbellsville High School in 2004, and a son, Kevin, who graduated from CHS in 2006. Sharp’s granddaughter, Alexis, is a fifth-grader at Campbellsville Middle School.
