Campbellsville Middle School music teacher Jessica Floyd will present and a group of her students will perform at the Kentucky Music Educators Association professional development conference on Saturday, Feb. 10, in Louisville.
Floyd will present about how teachers can help their students create musical arrangements using classroom instruments or unconventional instruments.
Her students have created their own arrangement to the song “Believer,” originally recorded by Imagine Dragons.
Floyd was inspired to begin the project after seeing a video produced by the Canadian band Walk Off The Earth.
The project began with students analyzing songs to see how they were arranged. Students then selected the instruments they would like to play and worked individually and as a group to incorporate the elements of music into their arrangement.
Floyd’s students have been practicing their arrangement for several weeks.
As part of her presentation to her fellow music teachers across Kentucky, a group of Floyd’s general music students will perform “Believer” by using chains, trash cans, boom whackers, bells and more.
Floyd’s presentation is at 10:50 a.m., and students will perform at about 11:30.
The performance will be streamed live on the Campbellsville Independent Schools’ Facebook Page.
