CMS leadership students visit state capitol

Campbellsville Middle School leadership students recently learned about state government.

The eighth-graders participated in Campbellsville University’s leadership program to learn about teamwork, leadership, community service and more.

Students recently traveled to Frankfort with the group to learn all about state government.

State Sen. Max Wise, R-Campbellsville, and State Rep. John “Bam” Carney, R-Campbellsville, met with the group and spoke to them about their jobs.

Students sat in on a committee hearing to watch Carney in action, and then got a chance to be representatives for the day while sitting in their official seats.

CMS students also toured the capitol, visiting the library, Senate and House of Representatives chambers and much more.

The leadership group – called LOCK, which stands for Leaders of Central Kentucky – met several times during the school year for trips and other activities.

The program is open exclusively to eighth-grade students.

CMS students who participated in the CU leadership program include Abi Wiedewitsch, Arren Hash, Anna Clara Moura, Zaquan Cowan, Kameron Smith, Taylor Knight, Clark Kidwell, John Orberson, Kenzi Forbis and Tristin Faulkner.

Students from Green and Taylor counties also participate.
