Campbellsville Middle School academic team recently competed at region Governor’s Cup, and one student will advance to state competition.
Seven students placed at the district competition to advance to region.
They include eighth-graders John Orberson and Abi Wiedewitsch in math and Haley Lopez in science and seventh-graders Kaylyn Smith in writing composition, Peyton Dabney and Bailey Stearman in social studies and Riley Rainwater in arts and humanities.
At region competition, which was on Monday, Jan. 30, and Saturday, Feb. 4, at Monroe County Middle School, eighth-grader Abi Wiedewitsch placed second in math and will now advance to the state competition.
Overall, the CMS team placed 11th out of 16 teams.
At Governor’s Cup competitions, teams compete in on-demand writing, quick recall, future problem solving and five written exams, including math, science, social studies, language arts and arts and humanities.
In its district, Campbellsville Middle School competes against Adair, Green and Taylor counties.
At region competition, CMS will compete against Adair, Green, Taylor, Clinton, Cumberland, Metcalfe, Monroe, Casey, Russell and Wayne counties, Somerset Christian School, Meece Middle School, Northern Middle School, Science Hill Elementary School and Southern Middle School.
State competition will be March 11-13 at the Galt House in Louisville.
Steven Gumm sponsors the CMS academic team, which is made up of CMS sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders.
