CHS names Eagle Excellence award winners

Campbellsville High School recently announced its Eagle Excellence award winners for May.

 

Eagle Excellence awards honor students who excel in eight specific academic areas. Winners are chosen each month, and can come from any grade level.

 

Teachers nominate students for the awards based on their performance in the classroom and their exemplary leadership skills.

 

Awards are given to students in the areas of science, English, vocational studies, art, social studies, math, music and foreign language studies.

 

When receiving the award, students are given a certificate signed by CHS Principal Kirby Smith and Campbellsville Independent Schools Superintendent Mike Deaton.

 

Award winners also have their photographs featured in a wooden case hung beside the CHS office.

 

Students who were chosen for the honor this month include the following.

 

Vocational Studies

 

CHS sophomore Charlie Pettigrew receives the vocational studies award.

 

Pettigrew always has a smile on his face, his teachers say, and is very pleasant and works well with his peers.

CHS junior Justin Richerson also receives the vocational studies award.

 

His teachers say he is a great student who works well in the classroom and is very pleasant to have in class.

Math

 

CHS freshman Tristin Lopez receives the math award.

 

Lopez’s teachers say he is a hard worker who enjoys learning. He is a leader in the classroom and is very inquisitive.

CHS freshman Katelyn Miller also receives the math award.

 

Miller is a quiet leader, her teachers say, but other students follow her example. She enjoys learning new math concepts and enjoys a challenge.

English

 

CHS junior Kimberly Harden receives the English award.

 

Harden is very dedicated and responsible in the classroom. She takes on every task and challenge presented, always tries her best and provides quality work on a consistent basis. Harden is a great student to have in the classroom. She is a leader and nurturer, and is always willing to help those around her.

CHS sophomore Jorden Perkins also receives the English award.

 

Perkins is a kind, caring and loyal young man who has shown a lot personal and academic growth over the entire school year. He always has a kind word for his fellow students and teachers, and focuses hard on his work every day. Perkins is always willing to help his peers with their work and he has shown great dedication to his project-based learning activities. His teachers say it is great to see a student such as Perkins achieve the academic success and personal growth he has experienced over the course of this year.

Music

 

CHS freshman Conner Riley receives the music award.

 

Riley does anything and everything to ensure that the band is successful. He has been pushing himself as a musician by auditioning for all-state as a freshman as well as auditioning for all district groups throughout his playing career.

Foreign Language

 

CHS freshman Gracyne Hash receives the foreign language award.

 

She receives the award for going above and beyond what is asked of her in the classroom. Hash is a kind and caring young lady who works hard at everything she does. She is a joy to have in the classroom, her teachers say.

Social Studies

 

CHS sophomore Elizabeth Sullivan receives the social studies award.

 

Sullivan loves history and government. Her teachers say she contributes to the quality of the classroom with her abilities and her willingness to help other students reach their goals.

CHS freshman Zoe McAninch also receives the social studies award.

 

McAninch has grown tremendously as a student AP Human Geography class this school year. She is respectful and engaging in her questioning and during class discussions, as well as being willing and prepared to help her fellow students. She has taken on outside assignments to further her learning/understanding of the content being taught in the class and is a true pleasure to have her in class.

Science

 

CHS junior Cody Davis receives the science award.

 

Davis has had a successful year this school year by completing his Microsoft Office certification early, being featured on Certiport's website and in the state Imagine Academy newsletter. He was a member of the STLP state runner-up Dell and Microsoft faming team for the creation of a Minecraft Rube Goldberg machine and also on STLP state champion team for the Sphero Hero category. Davis’s teachers say he has a great attitude and sets goals for his future.

Art

 

CHS sophomore Jason Agee receives the art award.

 

Agee has a great amount of artistic talent. He is continuing to work outside of his comfort zone and grow every day. His teachers say they can’t wait to see what he does in the future.
